Pets - ꩜❓(Spiral Question Mark) (2025)

The band pets was formed by brothers Jonny and Nick Campolo, who grew up in New Hampshire drawing inspiration from 20th-century songwriters and 90s radio. Their formal training and love of recording techniques cemented their belief in songwriting as the cornerstone of emotive music, establishing them on the New York indie scene in the 2000s. In 2021, citing influences like Neil Young, Carole King, and Leonard Cohen, the brothers established pets in Brooklyn, experimenting by pushing their traditional songs through samplers and synths. They were later joined by pop recording artist and acclaimed saxophonist Chase Ceglie, whom Jonny met in a graveyard. Their shared passion for Stephen Sondheim and improvisation led to a rich collaborative performance history. pets' debut album, 🌀❓(Spiral Question Mark), was recorded in New York and Ceglie's home studio. It blends analog acoustic instruments (piano, guitar, saxophone) with electronic elements (drum machines, samples), utilizing an experimental production ethos and mixed by Jake Aron. The album, an emotional, ballad-heavy journey, explores themes of vulnerability and self-reflection, merging intimate songwriting with a broad, evocative ambiance.
