Staraya Derevnya - Garden Window Escape (2025) [Hi-Res]

Staraya Derevnya (Старая Деревня), a British and Israeli music collective of 5-7 members, has released ten recordings since their 1999 debut "Экспедиция." Their latest album, "Garden Window Escape," was primarily recorded at Bonafide Studios in London in 2022, with additional sessions in Israel in 2023-2024, and parts recorded in Bulgaria and Mexico. The album is an unusual mix of music, noise, spoken parts, cries, and electronics, described by some sources as an "experimental psychedelic band" and "krautfolk." The lyrics on some tracks are based on poems by Russian artist Arthur Molev. The seven tracks feature musicians including Maya Pik (synth, flute, drum machine), Ran Nahmias (cello, santur, oud, voice), Gosha Hniu (cries, whispers, wheel lyre, percussion), Grundik Kasyansky (feedback synthesizer), Miguel Perez (guitars), Yoni Silver (bass clarinet), and Andrea Serafino (drums). Tracks such as “Tight-Lipped Thief,” “Cork Fight Operation,” and “Half-Deceased Uncle” may initially seem chaotic and bizarre, but repeated listens lessen their strangeness, making the album appealing to fans of musical exploration.
