Majken's new album "Korus," from the Malmö-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, is a unique and personal work she describes as "gospel-grunge," blending lo-fi textures with high-fidelity ambition, and the raw with the holy. The album, released after a six-year hiatus, is the culmination of personal and creative change, exploring themes of change, reconciliation, self-trust, and starting over, a shift from her debut Young Believer's focus on destructive relationships. Influences for Korus range from Fiona Apple and Cate Le Bon to Sparklehorse, Stereolab, and Beach House. The record was recorded in various locations, including Majken's home and the studio of longtime collaborator Damon Tutunjian (Swirlies, Mew), featuring harp, electric guitar, analog synths, and drum machines. Mixing was handled by Tutunjian, as well as acclaimed producers Peter Katis (Interpol, The National) and Jeff Zeigler. Majken's musical roots trace back to her Pentecostal upbringing, where harmony and collective singing became constants, despite her current non-religious outlook.
