Orches Limita is the minimal/maximal project of musician Chad Beattie, originating in Asheville. The project began as a one-off performance for the experimental concert series Drones In The Garden, collaborating with Mikey Powers and Charlie Boss. Beattie currently continues Orches Limita, performing solo with a hammered dulcimer and occasionally collaborating with Boss on upright bass, positioning the project as an invitation to collaborative improvisation. Orches Limita's debut album, MAXIMALIMISERABLISM, is an instrumental drone project centered on the unique interpretation of the hammered dulcimer. The six-track mood piece, despite conscious influences from figures such as Charlemagne Palestine, La Monte Young, Iannis Xenakis, and William Basinski, is distinct in Chad Beattie's original style and approach. The album is described as "the appendix of minimalism," exploring complex layers of harmonies, meticulously altered pitches, and the relationship between reverb and space, serving as an ode to exploratory composition.
