Various Artists - Long Journey Home: A Century After the 1925 Mountain City Fiddlers Convention (2025)

In 1925, a landmark fiddlers' contest took place in Mountain City, TN, marking the peak of the fiddle's popularity in early country music. A century later, John McCutcheon gathered modern old-time and bluegrass artists for an album to commemorate this event's centenary. This new collection reflects significant cultural and social changes over the past century: unlike the original event, which was partly sponsored by the KKK, the contemporary project features a near-equal number of men and women, Black and white musicians performing together, and innovative arrangements. Well-known artists such as Molly Tuttle, Old Crow Medicine Show, Tim O'Brien, and others contributed to this project, which celebrates both continuity and change in the musical heritage. All profits from the album are being donated to the Arts Center in Mountain City to support the continuation of their musical heritage and the education of young local musicians.
