The screening of The Wizard of Oz at the Sphere features a radically reinvented and immersive soundtrack, released by WaterTower Music, which was specifically engineered for the venue's cutting-edge sound system. This system incorporates 167,000 programmable speakers and infrasound-enabled haptic seats that generate film-synced vibrations. To create the soundtrack, the original 1939 mono score was deconstructed and then remixed with a completely new orchestral recording. Over 80 musicians participated in the recording, employing authentic 1930s style techniques and recording on the original scoring stage, even utilizing the original ocarina from the film. The result is a deeply innovative experience with directional audio that moves with the visuals and physical sensations emanating from the seats, complementing the 360-degree visual environment and additional sensory effects like custom scents.
