Sun Speak - Probiotic Orchestrations (2025)

The band Sun Speak, consisting of guitarist Matt Gold, drummer Nate Friedman, and keyboardist/engineer Daniel Pierson, has released their sixth album, Probiotic Orchestrations. The album is a fusion of rock, jazz, electronica, Americana, and progressive music, characterized by urgency, humor, and accessibility. The collective, which formed ten years ago in the experimental Chicago scene, came together in 2024 in a remote cabin in New Hampshire for intensive recording, allowing them to capture the freshness of first-time performance. Probiotic Orchestrations is a dazzling blend of improvisation and composition. The tracks demonstrate a wide variety of genres: from echoes of Jimi Hendrix and Americana inspired by Joni Mitchell, to industrial sounds, West African desert guitars, psychedelic rock, and the influence of the Beefheart band. The musicians emphasize that their work is based on playing with sounds, textures, improvisation, deliberate songwriting, and trust, stemming from the Chicago scene where jazz, noise rock, and hip hop collide.
