David Newman - The Runestone (Original Motion Picture Score) (2025) [Hi-Res]

BSX DIGITAL presents the re-release of David Newman's soundtrack for the 1991 horror comedy THE RUNESTONE, directed by Willard Carroll. The film, based on an unpublished novella by Mark E. Rogers, tells the story of the retrieval of a Norse runestone from a coal mine in Western Pennsylvania, which causes clocks to stop and leads to archaeologist Martin Almquist transporting the artifact to New York. Martin asks his colleague and his ex-girlfriend's current husband, Sam Stewart, to decipher the stone. The events are accompanied by warnings from Lars Hagstrom and a young boy Jacob's nightmares, which are connected to the legend of the god of war Tyr, who is prophesied to return to fight the creature Fenrir. Newman's music, conceived in 1990, features a robust score with tense strings, horns, percussion, and keyboard tonalities that parallel the storyline and foreshadow his subsequent success in cinema. David Newman, son of composer Alfred Newman, is one of today's most accomplished film composers, having scored over 100 films, including Galaxy Quest, Hoffa, and Anastasia. He is also a highly sought-after conductor, regularly appearing with leading orchestras worldwide and supporting the next generation of musicians. This release of THE RUNESTONE has been newly remastered by James Nelson and includes new liner notes.
