The upcoming 33rd release from the Habibi Funk label is dedicated to Ara Kekedjian, one of the most distinctive figures in the Armenian pop scene of Beirut in the 1960s and 70s. Born in 1946, Ara Kekedjian gained fame for his bold approach to Armenian pop rock (Estradayin), mixing national rhythms with hard-hitting drums, funky guitars, and a charismatic stage presence. He stood out in the creative hub of Bourj Hammoud with his inventiveness and non-classical, playful delivery, turning traditional melodies into energetic dance-floor tracks like Seta Seta and Ghapama. His reputation as a showman and innovator was cemented by electrifying live performances featuring theatrical guitar and organ solos. The compilation was created in collaboration with Darone Sassounian of Rocky Hill Records. The album is fully licensed with the support of Ara's family, and all profits will be split equally (50/50) with his estate.
