The 'Rare Stamps' compilation features recordings produced by Don Davis for soul artists J.J. Barnes and Steve Mancha (Clyde Wilson), both of whom, despite their Detroit background, possess deep soul roots and a characteristic, gritty vocal sound. Barnes, a Northern soul favorite, is known for his hit "Baby Please Come Back Home," which is reminiscent of Marvin Gaye's style. The Originals, famous for "Baby I'm For Real," made a significant uncredited contribution to his track "Sweet Sherry." Mancha, who has one of the most soulful voices ever recorded, later joined the group 100 Proof (Aged In Soul). His songs, such as "Don't Make Me a Storyteller" and "Hate Yourself In the Morning," are straightforward, non-fiction accounts of painful love affairs. Additionally, Stax (via Fantasy Records) released the 'Don Davis Presents the Sound of Detroit' CD, which combines the works of Barnes and Mancha with the complete 'Here to Stay' album by Darrell Banks.Title: Rare Stamps
