"L'immagine del suono" is one of the early solo endeavors by the Belgian multi-instrumentalist Joel Vandroogenbroeck, best known as the driving force and sole consistent member of the Krautrock group Brainticket. This material was originally released in 1972 as "library music" intended to accompany documentary films and visual media, and circulated largely unnoticed among industry professionals in a limited number of copies. The release is an explicitly "non-commercial" conceptual experiment, now recognized as a quintessential example of Italian avant-garde and positioning Vandroogenbroeck as a true pioneer of ambient and New Age music. The musical canvas is woven from electronic gasps, psychedelic fragments, elements of synthesized jazz, and abstract, mysterious hybrids, featuring vocalist Carole Muriel, who had previously collaborated with Brainticket and Drum Circus.
