Lenny Williams - Love Therapy (2000)

The 2000 album Love Therapy marked the first studio release in six years for 55-year-old Lenny Williams, following 1994's Chill, despite his reduced visibility in the 90s. The former Tower of Power singer, who primarily wrote the material with Preston Glass doing most of the producing, delivered a solid and enjoyable CD, although it does not reach the heights of his classic 70s solo favorites like Choosing You or Spark of Love. In Love Therapy, Williams adopts a more restrained and very laid-back approach, shifting focus from the aggressive funk and powerful belting of the 70s towards smooth, Isley Brothers-minded slow jams such as "Next Door Neighbor," "Jody," and "Oh Oh Oh." While falling short of being an essential release, the album is a strong effort that will be appreciated by the artist's dedicated, long-time followers.
