The Fountain is the recording and performance project of Brooklyn-based producer and songwriter Alexandra Lily Cohen. Her debut LP, When Heaven Is A Stone’s Throw, is the culmination of a solitary effort in both songwriting and production, an attempt to listen closely to her most irreducible artistic idiosyncrasies. Beyond its personal dimensions, the album becomes an ideological excavation, summoning archetypal imagery to chart a passage through systematic disorientation toward the possible, and a stark refusal of the vast cultural forces that seek to foreclose the future.
To extend this thematic inquiry, Cohen has spawned a more interactive iteration of The Fountain: a fictitious, amorphous organization with radical utopian aims. Through liberatory, manifesto-like missives that ruminate on the Possibility, and through immersive, in-person gatherings, The Fountain invites participants into their own “Rigorous Cultivation of the Map.”
