The album CHOOSE SOMETHING LIKE A STAR features some of the most popular American choral works ever written, and it celebrates craftsmanship.
Randall Thompson. The CD features Thompson's most famous composition, "Frostiana", a musical score based on seven poems.
Robert Frost, including such famous works as "The Road Not Taken", "Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening" and the title track. Also on the album
excerpts from the album THE PEACE ABLE KINGDOM, based on the biblical text of the prophet Isaiah, "Hallelujah" and "The Last Words of David" are presented.
Randall Thompson was a contemporary of an entire generation of great American composers, including Aaron Copland, Samuel Barber, Virgil Thomson,
William Schumann, and Leonard Bernstein. However, Randall Thompson is not so well represented in classical music recordings.
This CD by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir provides us with a great opportunity to hear Thomson's choral work. Although most of the music
Written in an expressive "American" style reminiscent of Copland and Virgil Thompson, Randall Thomson seems to speak for himself as a composer, especially inspired by American church music. This does not mean that this CD consists of sugary American church hymns, rather, Thomson draws inspiration from American church music and brings its atmosphere to a wonderful synthesis of choir and orchestra, quite powerful and majestic in a characteristic American style.
