Oli Kuster, Dee Byrne and Xavier Kaeser - Drowned Circuits (2025) [Hi-Res]

Swiss keyboardist Oli Kuster and UK saxophonist Dee Byrne, who previously collaborated in the groups MoonMot and Motherboard Pinball, have launched a new experimental duo project called DOX. Their new album, Drowned Circuits, marks the beginning of this project and features Berlin-based Swiss drummer Xavier Kaeser. DOX's music merges jazz improvisation with modular electronics to create fractured ambient soundscapes and glitch-laden beats. Drowned Circuits is entirely improvised, adhering to an ethos of spontaneous composition, with all melodic and rhythmic elements emerging organically during the recording. Kaeser’s live drumming introduced new energy, complementing the intricate synthetic patterns and textures created by Kuster and Byrne. The resulting music successfully integrates catchy pop hooks, groove, and melody with elements of atonality, chaos, and sonic experimentation, which Byrne attributes to the musicians fully surrendering control to the music.
