Galina Juritz - One Weird Trick (2025) [Hi-Res]

"One Weird Trick" is the debut solo album by British South African composer and producer Galina Juritz, released on London's Kit Records. A classically trained violinist, Juritz has extensive experience in various bands and ensembles, collaborating with leading musicians from the celebrated Cape Town and Johannesburg classical and jazz scenes. Her background includes composing music for the cantata "Madness: Songs Of Hope and Despair" (premiered at the World Psychiatry International Congress in 2016) and frequent scoring for film and animation.

"One Weird Trick" is the culmination of her solo material and, while rooted in technical string composition, is stubbornly unclassifiable. The album's musical scope is wide, opening with ambient (‘Leaves’), seguing into florid techno (‘Skeleton and Tiger’), shifting through jazz-inflected R'n'B (‘Things I Know to be True’), and orchestral minimalism. The B side features a storming jazz track, ‘Spirit Level’, recorded with Cape Town musicians, and the stately, Reichian-influenced ‘In Rebellion of Time’ featuring The Stockholm Sax Quartet. The recording closes with "oozing electronics" and is described as a truly unique, unpredictable, and bizarre record. An album launch party is scheduled for October 30, 2025, in London.
