Soar - Soar (2025) [Hi-Res]

Originally released in 1995, the debut album "Soar" by Swiss DIY musician Christian Aebi is an example of ambient psychedelic pop music in the DIY and lo-fi style, created using broken equipment and toy instruments. Aebi, who lived and worked in the Swiss town of Langenthal until his death in 2021, established the Soar project in 1994 and released five albums. The reissued debut album sounds prophetic, harmoniously combining elements of twee pop, shoegaze, and prog rock, and foreshadowing the misty-eyed, tape-warped synth sound later perfected by artists such as Boards of Canada and Casino vs. Japan. The album, particularly in tracks like "Blue Air" and "Unveil," gradually moves away from pure twee pop/lo-fi into a more unique, enigmatic zone, while remaining, albeit barely, recognizable as pop music.
