Tore Johansen Feat. Steve Swallow - I.S. (2010)

On jazz trumpeter Johansen's eighth album, released under his own name, he invited none other than legendary American electric bassist Steve Swallow, known for his collaborations with Gary Burton and Carla Bley, among others. For three days in the summer of 2009, two for rehearsals and one for recording, they were accompanied by two of the best Swedish jazz musicians: pianist Lars Jansson and drummer Anders Kjellberg. The result of this intense collaboration was the wonderful album IS, in which Johansen, Jansson and Swallow presented their own compositions — among the latter's four works there is an incendiary version of "Item #8", as well as the fantastic "Eiderdown" and "Falling Grace". Johansen's beautiful composition "Loose Psalm" is another highlight of the album, whose interaction and energy prove that three eventful musical days can produce impressive results.
