Chiaki Murakawa, the founding Honorary Conductor of the Yamagata Symphony Orchestra, passed away on June 25, 2025, at the age of 92. This is a live recording made on August 10, 2024, the year before his death. This is the last symphony that Chiaki Murakawa conducted in his lifetime. This performance reflects Murakawa's passion and love for music, which led to the birth of the first professional orchestra in the Tohoku region and made it a favorite of the people of Yamagata Prefecture. The music of Sibelius, which has been played and perfected together with the Yamagata Symphony Orchestra for half a century, overlaps the Finnish climate of Sibelius and the nature of Yamagata.
