This duo album, released in 1973, features two of ECM's most iconic performers, pianist Keith Jarrett and drummer Jack DeJohnette. The duo recorded the album between shows in Los Angeles while Keith Jarrett was still active in Miles Davis's group. Keith Jarrett plays not only electric piano but also flute and organ, while Jack DeJohnette responds by playing hand drums and other percussion instruments. The album features seven tracks, including the funky "Overture / Communion," the spiritual "Ruta + Daitya" with its hand drum and flute sounds that add a touch of quietude to the album, the foreshadowing of his later piano solos on "Sounds of Peru," and the bluesy electric piano highlight on "You Know, You Know." This is a valuable album in its own right, allowing us to hear Keith Jarrett take a new step forward, informed by the sensibilities he developed under Miles Davis.
