Kristóf Bacsó, Kristóf Bacsó Triad - Let It Go (2025) [Hi-Res]

Saxophonist and composer Kristóf Bacsó’s new album, Let It Go, explores philosophical questions regarding free will, drawing upon the ideas of Ludwig Wittgenstein. The author draws a parallel between the philosophical separation of action and will and the musical distinction between composition and improvisation. While composition allows for the revision of decisions, live improvisation is an irreversible "flow" where choices are dictated by the moment and musical intuition.

The album was recorded by the Kristóf Bacsó Triad (featuring Áron Tálas and Márton Juhász) alongside guest guitarist István Tóth. The music demonstrates that, unlike political liberty, the freedom of one musician in jazz is not restricted by the freedom of another but is rather enhanced through collective performance. This is evidenced by complex rhythmic structures (time signatures such as 5/4 and 11/8, and the use of quintuplets), polyphonic textures, and harmonic richness.

The album combines intellectual complexity with emotional depth, addressing themes of memory and loss (exemplified in tracks like My Father Sent a Message and Soulbird, dedicated to the memory of Mátyás Szandai). The work concludes with a reflection on accepting life decisions and the ability to "let go," a concept mirrored in the album's title.
