Nick Schillace - Landscape and People (2008)

Nick Schillace is a Detroit-based acoustic guitarist who, despite his background in Afrobeat and post-rock ensembles, pursued a solo career to maintain creative independence. Raised in a musical family rooted in blues and folk, he received formal education and completed a thesis on 20th-century American musical identity. His artistic method is founded on the conviction that high-caliber musicians create a unique style based on their own distinct tastes and idiosyncrasies rather than following the whims of others. This philosophy is realized in his debut album Box Canyon (2005) and the subsequent release Landscape and People. Schillace's compositions for 6- and 12-string guitars are characterized by a narrative quality, sonic freshness, and deep personal engagement.
