Muriel Grossmann - Breakthrough (2025)

Muriel Grossmann's album Breakthrough represents a continuation of the spiritual trajectory initiated by The Light of the Mind. While Grossmann's earlier oeuvre synthesized post-bop and modal jazz, her recent work has evolved into meditative soundscapes characteristic of spiritual jazz. The conceptual framework of the current release derives from the Dzogchen principle of "non-meditation," prioritizing a process of subtraction, relaxation, and the release of expectations over accumulation.

Supported by longtime collaborators Radomir Milojkovic (guitar), Abel Boquera (keys), and Uros Stamenkovic (drums), the quartet exhibits profound organic cohesion. Tracks such as "Already Here" and "Indestructible" blend atmospheric textures with rhythmic fluidity, occasionally referencing hard-bop structures while maintaining a flow-state aesthetic. The album concludes with a sense of open-ended possibility rather than finality. Ultimately, Breakthrough invites the listener to relinquish control; the music's clarity and transcendence are fully realized only through the act of "letting go" and the recognition that the sought-after harmony has always been present.
