Born January 26, 1976, singer-songwriter Hitomi Furuya in Tochigi Prefecture began her career as a teen model before making her debut in 1994 under the tutelage of Tetsuya Komuro, who produced her early pop music. While her first two singles, "Let's Play Winter" and "We Are "Lonely Girl," were not commercially successful, her third single, "Candy Girl," was used as the theme for a Kodak commercial and reached the top 10. Subsequent singles, "By Myself" and "Busy Now," solidified Hitomi's reputation. Her second album, "By Myself," released in 1996, debuted at number one on the Oricon charts and sold over 800,000 copies. Her third album, "Déjà-vu," reached number two. After releasing three studio albums and 12 singles, she parted ways with Komuro in 1998. In 1999, she released her first greatest hits album, "H," which reached number one on the Japanese charts and sold over 500,000 copies. In 2000, her top-five single, "LOVE2000," was used as the theme song for Gold Medalist Naoko Takahashi, garnering widespread attention. The album containing this hit, "LOVE LIFE," reached number two. In 2001, "I AM," from her sixth album, "HUMA-RHYTHM," was used as the second opening theme for the TV anime "Inuyasha," reaching number seven. After a year and a half hiatus, she released her new studio album, "Traveler," in May 2004, which reached number two. In 2005, celebrating her 10th anniversary since her debut, she launched her own record label, "Love Life Records." Her first single released on this label was "Japanese Girl," which shifted her style to a more modern, dance-oriented style. After a further hiatus, they released the single "World! Love! Love!" on May 20, 2009, and their ninth studio album, Love Life 2, reached the top 30 a month later. On February 16, 2011, they released their final single under Avex, "Umarukurete Arigato/Smile World," followed by the indie album Spirit in April, the mini-album Special in November, and Möbius (Style is ∞) in October 2012. In December 2013, they released the theme song for the film Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Gaim & Wizard: The Sengoku Movie War of Destiny. On December 18, 2013, they released their 35th single, "Teppen Star." In 2017, Hitomi was selected to sing the new theme song for NHK's "Minna no Uta." The song, "Yume wa Konderu Randoseru," was released as a digital single on February 2nd. In November 2017, she started a new radio program, "Hitomi Radio," on Inter FM.
