"Burden of Proof" (2013) is the fourth studio album by the British jazz-rock/Canterbury band Soft Machine Legacy (later reverting to their original name, Soft Machine), released by MoonJune Records.

"Burden of Proof" marked a significant milestone for the band, which brought together veterans of the classic Soft Machine lineup from various years: John Marshall (drums), Hugh Hopper/Roy Babbington (bass), John Etheridge (guitar), and Theo Travis (saxophone, flute, piccolo, keyboards).

The album demonstrates the perfect balance between virtuosic jazz improvisation, dense fusion drive, and atmospheric, Canterbury-inspired psychology. The production and sound are vibrant and dynamic, paying homage to the legacy of the original Soft Machine from the 1970s without sounding too nostalgic.
