These Six Duets for Flute were recently rediscovered in Strasbourg in a series of handwritten notebooks from the late 18th century. Born in Moravia, singer and conductor F. X. Richter had learned much during his time at the Mannheim school before being appointed Kapellmeister of Strasbourg Cathedral, a post he held from 1769 until his death in 1789. His work illustrates an important moment in the transition from the Baroque to the pre Romantic style and has Mozartian overtones. Some of his works were performed and published in Paris. Mozart visited him during his stays in Strasbourg and held him in such high esteem that he named his son Richter.
