Murmurosi - Svitanok (2025) [Hi-Res]

In 2025, the Montréal-based duo Murmurosi independently released the album Svitanok ("Dawn"). Inspired by the concept of life overcoming death and light prevailing over darkness, the work represents a reinvention of Ukrainian folklore intertwined with elements of Western classical music and jazz. The record is structured as a cohesive cycle symbolizing the transition from night to morning.

The musical progression ranges from lullabies and ritual chants to energetic dance tunes and wedding "kolomyikas." The themes encompass a wide emotional spectrum: from intimate lyrics and the joy of spring renewal to the tragedy of war and emigration. The recording features vocals, piano, and upright bass alongside ethnic instruments such as the oud, drymba, and tapan. The authors position the album as a manifesto of cultural continuity and hope.
