"Pilgrimage" is a conceptual work by Balkan Union, representing a profound exploration of the cultural code of the Balkan Peninsula and surrounding regions. The album weaves together Turkish, Serbian, Hungarian, Macedonian, and Romanian folk themes, reimagined through the lens of contemporary ethno-jazz and fusion. Each composition serves as a stop on an imaginary journey: from the mystical "Seven Lakes of Rila" to the energetic rhythm of the "Balkan Express." The musicians utilize a rich array of instruments, combining traditional woodwinds and strings with virtuosic jazz improvisations. The album explores themes of identity, migration, and the spiritual unity of nations, emphasizing common roots amidst a diversity of expressive forms.
