Reflexões Sobre a Crise do Desejo…/ is not only a milestone in Grupo Um’s trajectory, representing a bold shift towards the erudite avant-garde movements of the 20th century, but also a pioneering effort to bring the electroacoustic language to the world of Brazilian instrumental music — a major innovation in the country at the time.

Originally released on vinyl in 1981, the album made history as the group’s second album and was considered one of the ten best jazz releases of the year.

With Reflexões, Grupo Um delved deeper into electronic and electroacoustic music, adding concrete/electronic sounds and doses of atonality, all combined with free jazz, modern harmonies, and an Afro-Brazilian beat, creating a unique and advanced sound and taking a step forward in Brazilian jazz.

The digital release of Reflexões Sobre a Crise do Desejo…/ is a part of the program celebrating the 50th anniversary of Grupo Um’s foundation. This first-ever digital version brings back the original album, recently remastered from analog recordings, and is accompanied by the 90-page booklet "Reflexões Sobre a Crise do Desejo…/: the vanguard of the vanguard," which tells the story behind the album’s creation.

The booklet features essays and testimonials by critics, journalists, researchers, and musicians, who analyze different aspects of the group’s music and trajectory. All filled with many photos, press articles, memorable stories, and even a short story and poetry inspired by this music. The booklet is available to fans who purchase the album on Bandcamp.

After more than forty years, Reflexões Sobre a Crise do Desejo…/ remains, to this day, one of the most radical avant-garde creations in Brazilian jazz.
