Anna Pidgorna - Invented Folksongs (2025)

Ukrainian-Canadian composer Anna Pidgorna is releasing her album "Invented Folksongs," the culmination of years of research into Ukrainian musical traditions. Moving beyond simple folk arrangements, Pidgorna utilizes traditional aesthetics as a foundation for entirely original contemporary compositions. The album features vocal monodramas and instrumental pieces, with Pidgorna herself performing the vocals by blending authentic folk techniques with classical training. Her self-penned lyrics reinterpret personal dramas and social issues through the lens of traditional metaphors. This project represents a sophisticated synthesis of ethnographic exploration and avant-garde artistry.
