The album "Book of Birds" (2024) marks a new chapter in the collaboration between Murat Aydemir and Christos Barbas, who continue to evolve the traditions of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean modal music. Renowned masters of the modal genre, including Ross Daly and Sokratis Sinopoulos, contributed to the recording, expanding the classical repertoire of the tanbur and ney with contemporary compositions. The central concept of the release draws on Sufi symbolism of birds as intermediaries between realms and emphasizes the intrinsic value of the creative community. The work demonstrates profound improvisational mastery and the artistic connection of the performers, which originated at the Labyrinth Musical Workshop.
