Magnus Wiik - Baby Steps (2026) [Hi-Res]

Baby Steps is Magnus Wiik's seventh solo album. After an explosive debut with albums Rad and Trad in 2020, he's performed all over Europe and Canada, garnered international critical acclaim and carved his place as «one of the most exciting acts from this side og the pond» according to Blueberry Bluegrass Festival. Baby Steps continues down the path he set out on with his first albums, the music is rooted in a bluegrass and americana-sound that both pushes the boundaries as well as paying tribute to the roots.

Baby Steps contains eight originals by Magnus and has a broad sonic range. From the soft and dreamy opener The Last Balloon heading into an ambivalent barnstormer with Fly Uten Vinger. The sound is reminiscent of his earlier albums but the keys have a bigger role than earlier. Magnus was in his early 20s activ as a keyboardist as well as a guitarist, but after buying a banjo the keys had to take the back seat. He has wanted to merge these worlds for a while and through songs such as the 9 minute long title track Baby Steps this ambitions has been realized.

Baby Steps is the product of a DIY-artist who continually makes baby steps and strides toward his musical vision.

Magnus Wiik has toured across the globe with his own projects and as a sideman on a wide array of instruments for more than 20 years. He has been awarded prizes, released more than twenty albums of original music and performed on some of the biggest stages for this music in Europe and America. As well as a solo artist he has bands such as Open String Department and Haley's Comet, and works with big names in bluegrass and folk music such as Bríd Harper (IR), Tellef Kvifte and John Mailander.
