Although Les Sylphides and Graduation Ball are less frequently performed and recorded nowadays, they remain pillars of the repertoire, each in their own style: the former as a tribute to romantic ballet inspired by Chopin's music, the latter as a gem of nostalgic dance humour set in imperial Vienna to a medley of music by Johann Strauss II orchestrated by Antal Doráti. They are conducted here by Sir Charles Mackerras in a superb newly remastered version.
