"Hazel," the fifth studio album by the supergroup Æthenor, represents a collaborative effort featuring members of Sunn O))), Ulver, and the Brötzmann Trio. Built upon edited live recordings from a 2010 Italian tour, the record is defined by a notable sense of instrumental restraint. The compositions blend atmospheric ambient layers with identifiable rock elements and Krautrock-influenced grooves reminiscent of the band Can. The sonic palette is anchored by minimalist percussion and evolving Rhodes synths, complemented by modular electronics and vocal contributions from Kristoffer Rygg. This work highlights a unique approach to collective improvisation, distinguishing itself from conventional noise or effects-driven experimental music.
