Welsh pre Man 1960's band from Merthyr Tydfil formed 1962.

Wales is one of the four main administrative and political regions of Great Britain, formerly a conglomerate of independent Celtic kingdoms. The Welsh music scene flourished in the 1960s and early 1970s. Hundreds of bands were born, migrated, intertwined, and disappeared into oblivion – a typical picture for England during the rock boom. In 1963, guitarist Micky Jones (born June 7, 1943) formed his first professional band, the Bystanders, with keyboardist Clive John, drummer Jeffrey Jones, bassist Ray Williams, and Gerry Braden (vocals). The band was financially successful, and according to some reports, earned up to £1,000 a week in its later stages. The Bystanders recorded eight singles in a good beat-rock vein, one of which, "98.6/Stubborn Kind of Fellow," even made the charts (#45). Over the course of five years, they went through several musicians until, in 1968, they recruited guitarist Roger "Deke" Leonard from The Dream. With a new musician, the band saw potential for further development, and in late 1968, they changed their name to MAN.
