The Maverick Concert Hall in Woodstock, renowned for its century-long history and avant-garde milestones such as John Cage’s 4′33″, served as the venue for the "Unexpected Music" festival. On September 1, 2025, Evan Shornstein and Celia Hollander delivered a unique performance, deviating from their typical electronic focus to utilize acoustic timbres, specifically the grand piano and balafon alongside synthesizers. The recording consists of six compositions inspired by liminal states and natural transitions, such as the threshold between day and night or summer and autumn, capturing the specific atmospheric essence of the woodland concert hall.
