Chet Sounds’ third album Tying Up Loose Ends, is not only the Australian DIY artist and multi-instrumentalist Chet Tucker’s most sonically compelling body-of-work but opens the most intimate window into his world. Written across Australia between 2022 and 2024, the record took shape while Tucker was constantly in motion — much of it penned in Melbourne while he found himself daydreaming about the desert sun and wide-open spaces of the Northern Territory. That sense of distance and longing seeps into the songs, giving the album a reflective, sun-baked quality that lingers long after the final track fades.

Recorded primarily in Tucker’s Sydney bedroom during the latter half of 2024, Tying Up Loose Ends marks the first time he entered the studio with fully written and demoed material, allowing him to push his arrangements further than ever before. Expanding on the classic rock, folk and psychedelic foundations that have defined Chet Sounds to date, the album wanders into more intricate and experimental territory while remaining grounded in timeless singer-songwriter tradition. Fleeting instrumental detours sit alongside warmly melodic songs, rough around the edges but rich with detail, texture and heart.

Lyrically, Tying Up Loose Ends is Tucker’s most vulnerable work to date. Across the record he reflects on heartbreak, friendship, family, and the quiet ache of nostalgia, delivered through distinctly Australian storytelling and a voice that feels both personal and familiar. Influenced by the sunlit honesty of Carole King, James Taylor and Ned Doheny, the album balances intimacy with ambition — a body of work that feels lived-in, thoughtfully crafted, and deeply human, affirming Chet Sounds as a singular voice in contemporary Australian DIY music.
