The Choice Four were a harmonizing soul group from Washington, D.C., whose records deserved a better fate. They recorded for RCA in the mid-'70s, but were never able to achieve a breakout hit, despite making some very moving, nicely sung ballads. Lead singer Bobby Hamilton was an above-average stylist, and was effectively supported by Ted Maduro, Pete Marshall, and Charles Blagmore. Maduro and Marshall were former members of the Love Tones, and Blagmore of the Stridels. While they did score several Billboard appearances, they never quite managed to reach the R&B Top 40 (1975's "When You're Young and in Love" made it to number 45). Marshall and Blagmore went on to tour in projects with former members of the Temptations. © Ron Wynn
