Denzel Curry has unveiled the album “Strictly 4 The Scythe”, the debut release of his new supergroup The Scythe. In addition to Denzel himself, it includes Ferg, Bktherula, TiaCorine and Key Nyata.
This is a big declaration of love for southern hip-hop: the album mixes Memphis horror, Miami bass and modern soundcloud rap. Guests include Smino, Rich the Kid, Lazer Dim 700, Juicy J, 1900Rugrat and SadBoi.
The title of the release refers to Curry's early mixtape “Strictly 4 My RVIDXRZ” from 2013 and his past in the Raider Clan. A classic trope for rap, in general: returning to your native street after success.
The Scythe is a collective of rappers united by a common sound and MC skills, led by leader Denzel Curry and including such famous collaborators as A$AP Ferg, Tia Corine, Bktherula and Key Nyata. The band consists of five members, and it is rooted in the emerging scene of modern and intergenerational hip-hop. The Scythe captures the spirit of the band from the time of Denzel's founding Raider Clan, while continuing his futuristic interpretations of old-school regional rap (Memphis, Houston, Miami), which could be heard most recently on the King of the Mischievous South album. Combining Denzel's energetic style with classic hard southern sounds, the project unites the core of hip-hop from different eras, paying homage and at the same time anticipating the emergence of a new generation.
