Billow Observatory follows up last year's full-length, 'The Glass Curtain,' with a seven track, 26 minute EP of new material titled 'Resina'. It explores darkly hypnotic sonic territory that shares space with stunning moments of blinding light. Opening track, “Petricho”, warmly invites you in with a moody, narcotic optimism. The 6+ minute "Carrier" drifts along like a heavily sedated version of a late-era Talk Talk piece - slowly and gradually building, with guitar notes that hang in the air like heavy smoke. "Bukhta" and "Ashen Clock" showcase Billow Observatory at their most minimal and haunting - blending dusty analog synths with beautiful, yet slightly unsettling, translucent sounds of unknown origin. Together, the seven tracks coalesce into one, where the sublime lies within the subliminal.
Trans-Atlantic ambient duo Billow Observatory, consisting of Denmark's Jonas Munk and Jason Kolb from Michigan, have released material since the 2006 collaboration began. Kolb has a background in the vibrant Michigan space rock scene as part of ambient-rock band Auburn Lull. Munk first received recognition for his solo work as Manual and has later collaborated with Ulrich Schnauss and worked as producer on a number of projects spanning a wide range of genres.
