Eri Yamamoto - Horizon (2025)

December of 2025 marks my thirtieth year living in New York City, after moving from my native Japan. I think that the perfect way to celebrate this milestone is to release a duo piano recording with Matthew Shipp.

Shortly after moving to New York, I had the good fortune to play every Friday night at the Avenue B Social Club in the East Village. This club attracted musicians, poets, visual artists, and a variety of unique New Yorkers. I met Matthew there, and we became friends. He was my first “piano friend” in New York. Throughout the years, he always has a positive energy and a belief in developing his own voice. He has encouraged me to find my own way in music.

I wrote all the songs for this recording specifically for this special collaboration. After thirty years in New York, I see the horizon for the next thirty years. May 2025 Eri Yamamoto in New York City
