Daniel Blumberg has developed an experimental soundtrack for Gianfranco Rosi’s Neapolitan portrait, "Sotto le Nuvole," utilizing a concept of overlapping temporal layers. The compositions are based on improvisations by saxophonists John Butcher and Seymour Wright, focusing on microtones and the mechanical noises of their instruments. The unique production process involved re-amplifying these initial recordings underwater within the sunken Roman city of Baia using specialized hydrophones. This technique integrated natural sounds of volcanic activity and aquatic environments into the score, resulting in a melancholic soundscape that dissolves the boundaries between the historical past and the future.
