David Chesky, Trio in the New Harmonic - Aural Paintings (2018) [Hi-Res]

Trio in the New Harmonic is a piano trio recording by David Chesky with Peter Washington on bass and Billy Drummond on drums. The music fuses the atonal harmonic language of the Second Viennese School with the chamber-like improvisational sensibility of Bill Evans and Paul Bley, while evoking the iconoclastic Americanism of Charles Ives. The boundary between composition and improvisation is deliberately dissolved: the three musicians engage in collective dialogue that remains consistently contemplative and pointillistic, never quite reaching a full boil — painting an abstract canvas rather than pursuing jazz virtuosity for its own sake.
