With bassvictim, expect the unexpected. The London-based duo of Ike Clateman and Maria Manow have a reputation for low-end frequencies and bruising electropop melodies that cause scabbed knees on the dance floor and a general sense of chaos. Their suitably titled follow-up to 2025’s debut album Forever throws more curveballs in the face of their growing notoriety, from moments of acoustic revelry recalling medieval folk music (“Don’t Stop Me Now”) to rustling ambient motifs (“The Dogs of War”). Most shockingly, these two rabble-rousers reveal their tender side: Peep the seven-minute-plus “Babcia Jadzia”, which finds Manow singing in her native Polish over xylophone plinks while paying tribute to her grandmother. Now that’s how you take listeners by surprise.
