In April 2025, during a two-day demo recording marathon, I recorded around 30 songs with help from my good friend, Dino Bevilacqua. Over the last year, I have been tinkering with these demos—adding layers, rerecording some, and just generally playing around with the songs. In doing this experimentation, I found that some of the songs didn't want anything added to them; they flat-out resisted the full-band treatment. I would spend hours rerecording, but I kept going back to the original, rough demo recordings.
With my birthday just a couple weeks away, I decided to assemble an album from those initial sessions. The result is The Way of Time, a collection of eight acoustic songs, all performed live with minimal overdubs. These songs are honest, raw, and joyful. They were never meant to be heard by anyone; we were just trying to capture a foundation to build on later. Dino was a master producer, giving me the space, energy, and encouragement to play openly and freely. At the time, he even said, “You should just put these out.” I didn’t see it then, but he was totally right.
I shot the photo for the album cover in the Briones area and used my own handwriting for the text. I wanted the artwork to have the same spirit as the music itself—uninhibited, simple, and straightforward. I didn’t release any singles or roll out the hype train; I just wanted to get it out and let the music speak for itself. This may prove to be unwise in today's algorithmic, predictable, and formulaic music marketing environment. But that's fine. You live and you learn.
Life has a way of bringing things about just at the right time, and March 27, 2026 was the right time for this album. Thanks for listening and much love to you all!
