Slim Cessna, Lord Dwight Pentacost - Didn't We Ramble (2023) [Hi-Res]

Didn't We Ramble is an EP released on March 17, 2023 via SCACUNINCORPORATED, the band's own independent imprint. It is a spare, intimate duo project uniting two cornerstones of the Slim Cessna's Auto Club universe: founder Slim Cessna and long-time collaborator Lord Dwight Pentacost, a member of SCAC since the late 1990s and a key figure in the related projects DBUK and Munly & The Lupercalians.
The record presents four pieces drawn from deep within the American and British-Irish folk tradition, newly arranged and performed by the duo. Down in the Willow Garden (also known as Rose Connelly) is a classic Appalachian murder ballad with roots traceable to 19th-century Ireland. I Never Will Marry is a traditional song of solitary womanhood, widely known through versions by Joan Baez and Odetta. The title track Didn't We Ramble is a traditional New Orleans funeral march that became an emblem of restless wandering. Hold The Bleeding Bowl, based on the folk song Lambkins, was adapted and arranged by Lord Dwight Pentacost in collaboration with Slim Cessna.
The EP fits seamlessly into the artistic lineage of both performers. For over two decades, Slim Cessna's Auto Club have inhabited the crossroads of country, punk, rockabilly, gospel, and gothic folk — always drawn to murder ballads and fire-and-brimstone imagery. Stripped to its acoustic bones, this duo recording gives that same tradition an archival solemnity: two voices, minimal arrangement, and the full moral weight of centuries-old narratives. Artwork was designed by Heather Reynolds, SCACUNINCORPORATED's longtime visual collaborator.
