Rainy Days (1970–1974) is the second disc of the career-spanning box set Images of Life, released by Third Man Records in 2026. It gathers Ted Lucas's solo recordings from the years between the dissolution of his bands and the emergence of his cult debut Ted Lucas (1975), widely known as the OM Album.
The collection brings together live performances, unreleased studio tracks, and intimate home recordings — a documentary snapshot of the most solitary and creatively fertile period in the Detroit singer-songwriter's life. In tone and texture, this is the acoustic warmth and quiet charm most closely associated with Lucas's celebrated 1975 record.
A prominent figure in Detroit's music and counterculture scenes of the 1960s and '70s, Lucas was an eccentric beatnik, a prodigious guitarist, and a sitarist trained under Ravi Shankar. Those who witnessed him during this era recalled him as the most gifted guitarist and songwriter never to have broken through — an artist spoken of in the same breath as Joni Mitchell and John Fahey, yet consigned to the margins of music history. Rainy Days captures him at his most unguarded: songs about love, loss, and longing rendered in spare arrangements of acoustic guitar and layered vocal harmonies, before the studio refinement of the OM Album gave his music its definitive shape.
