"Elevator Songs" is a conceptual collaboration between the vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth and composer Gabriel Kahane, exploring human narratives through the lens of stories set in hotel rooms. The album integrates complex eight-part vocal polyphony with instrumental accompaniment, including keyboards, guitar, violin, and vibraphone. Produced by Joseph Lorge, the work presents a series of musical portraits featuring individual soloists from the ensemble. The record blends elements of contemporary classical music and art-pop, addressing themes ranging from historical tragedies to futuristic satire.
