Jimmy Wilson - Jumpin' In The Alley: Complete Singles As & Bs 1948-61 (2026)

Louisiana-born Jimmy Wilson began as a gospel singer with the Pilgrim Travelers in California before turning to secular music in 1948 under San Francisco producer Bob Geddins. Over the following decade he recorded sporadically, mostly within the West Coast blues scene, achieving his one major breakthrough in 1953 when "Tin Pan Alley" reached No. 10 on the R&B chart. He never built on that success: no further recordings followed this period, and he sank into alcoholism, dying in 1966 in his mid-forties.

This two-disc, 49-track collection gathers nearly everything Wilson recorded during those years for the Cava-Tone, Aladdin, Big Town, Rhythm, Irma, Goldband, and Duke labels, including his hit "Tin Pan Alley." Most sessions were produced by Bob Geddins, with backing from guitarists Lafayette Thomas and Clarence Garlow, pianists King Solomon and Sherman Louis, saxophonist-songwriter Que Martin, and pianist Jimmy McCracklin. It stands as a thorough portrait of a talented performer whose potential was never fully realized.
