Osmosis - Osmosis (2026) [Hi-Res]

Osmosis is the debut album by the Prague-based jazz quintet of the same name, released on Amplión Records in early 2026. The group evolved from a student ensemble at the Ježkárna conservatory in Prague and brings together musicians from two generations of the Czech jazz scene. The band was co-founded by drummer František Otakar Kukula and pianist Robin Galia, joined by Tomáš Liška on double bass and electric bass, František Vaníček on trumpet, and Petr Kalfus on saxophone.
The quintet navigates the territory between modern jazz, free improvisation, and jazz tradition. A defining sonic feature is the interplay between acoustic piano and synthesizers, and between upright bass and electric bass — a palette that spans from lyrical melodic passages to expansive psychedelic textures. Both principal composers acknowledge wide-ranging influences beyond jazz, including pop, alternative, and folk. The album was recorded with two guest guitarists — David Dorůžka and Igor Ochepovsky, the latter of whom also served as mixing engineer and contributed to the album's overall sonic character.
The band's name, originally an in-joke, became a philosophical statement: osmosis as the natural exchange between two environments striving toward equilibrium. This duality — acoustic versus electronic, older versus younger generation, composition versus improvisation — permeates the record. All material was developed collectively, with each member contributing ideas that were then shaped and refined through rehearsals and performance.
